Student-Teacher Education in Ecological Research (STEER) is a summer fellowship program that trains teachers and students to implement the scientific method using ecology-based studies so that teachers can better engage their students in the process of science. Specifically, teacher fellows will:

1. Conduct field & lab research on reptile ecology with professional biologists and graduate students.
   
2. Create lesson plans and use them in an outreach program at the Auburn University Museum of Natural History.
   
3. Develop skills and obtain tools to effectively teach the process of science in the classroom.
   
4. Mentor a middle school student project for a regional science fair.
   
5. Receive a stipend and take-home kit of educational materials.
   

STEER is a program organized by the Warner Lab at Auburn University, and is a collaboration among scientists, teachers and students. STEER integrates programs within the Auburn University Museum of Natural History, College of Sciences and Mathematics Outreach Office, and the Office of Inclusion, Equity, and Diversity. STEER is funded by a CAREER grant from the National Science Foundation.
